Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the festival, the central library on Georges IV Bridge presents a special exhibition in the music library Memorabilia and rare historical artefacts from the last 40 years of the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival. Do not Miss – Free Event Mardi Gras; Just Like in New Orleans, Edinburgh will turn into a giant party venue a free concert set in Grassmarket from 1pm, you will have the amazing chance to see bands from South Africa, USA and Europe, an Australian singer as well as the cream of local talent. The parade will take place on Sunday 15th of July, starting in Princes Street West end, join the party and enjoy following the colourful delegation for an afternoon of great music. Do not Miss! 13th July 1.30am–5am, £6/£5 JAMES BROWN IS ANNIE – Lay down the grooves with Scotland’s premier soul-funk outfit, James Brown Is Annie, as they gear up for the launch of their new album in September. Expect to hear funky favourites, soulful newbies, and lots of hip-shaking tunes by the likes of Steely Dan, Average White Band, and James Brown in between. Having just recorded their second album with AWB legend, Hamish Stuart, all bodes well for a hot, sweaty, funky night. 18th July - 1.30am-5am, £4/£3 SWAMPJAM Late night Wednesday regulars lead a special festival-edition late night session with a tonne of New Orleans beats, a wall of brass, and plenty of specially invite guests. 19th July - 1.30am-5am, £4/£3 FUTURE HEROES – Superbly creative guitarist Aki Remally fronts this brilliant Groove/Funk 6-piece, with funky horn section of Jonny White (sax) and trumpet ace Chuck Dearness Sunday 22nd July: 10pm-1am, £7/£5 THE JAZZ BAR’S JAM SESSIONS Open Stage ‘Jazz Jam’ where our excellent House Trio backs all kinds of surprise jazzy guests dropping in to play – and we’ve no idea who’s coming in until tonight! If you want to play, turn up with your instrument and ask for a place on the evening’s list of guest players (entry is free to those participating in the jam session).
