History
The Old Waverley Hotel on Princes Street Edinburgh is one of the Edinburgh’s oldest and best loved hotels. A hotel has stood on this site since the first half of the 19th Century, and is much a part of Edinburgh’s history as Princes Street itself.
Built as a temperance hotel by Robert Cranston, it was originally known as simply the Waverley Hotel. When Cranston expanded his empire in 1868, as well as building temperance hotels in London and Liverpool, he built the New Waverley Hotel at Waterloo Place. From then, to this day, the original Waverley hotel on Princes Street became known to one and all as the Old Waverley Hotel.

The legal entities of each of the businesses may have different ownership structures and have different boards not least because of Joint Venture agreements and funding arrangements but one or more of the Executives are normally involved in each separate legal entity whether through direct/indirect share ownership and/or board representation. The different legal entities are not in partnership with one another nor held out as such and do not have any liability (save under specific contractual arrangements) for one another’s liabilities. None of these legal entities have any power, authority, or capacity to bind any other legal entity listed.
Disabled Facilities
Due to the nature of the historic Old Waverley Hotel building we are unable to offer disabled access for wheelchair users to the hotel reception located on the first floor. However, guests who are able to manage a few stairs can access reception with the remainder of the building being accessed by lift.

- Where are you located? The Old Waverley hotel is located on Princes Street in the heart of Edinburgh city centre, and almost opposite Waverley Train Station. Our address is 43 Princes Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2BY.
- Do you have a car park? We do not have an on-site car park however you can get discounted car parking at the nearby NCP car park at Greenside. For further details please call us on 0131 556 4648 or email reservations@oldwaverley.co.uk
- What time can I check in and out? Check in is at 3pm and check out by 11am. We are happy to store luggage both before you check in if arriving early, or after you check out.
- Would I need to pre-book a table in your restaurant? We would advise that you pre-book a table although this is not always necessary. A room service is also available.
- What time are breakfast, lunch and dinner served in Cranston’s restaurant?
Breakfast is served Monday to Friday from 7am to 10am & Saturday & Sunday from 8am to 11am. Lunch is served from 12pm to 2.30pm & dinner is served from 6pm to 9pm. An all-day menu is also available in the Abbotsford Bar & Lounge from 12pm to 9pm daily.
